How You Can Get an Edge When Applying

We'll be talking about the actual application process. Where do you find the DS jobs properly. What sort of keywords should you be using, and how can you easily find the Hiring Manger, and bypass HR.

The Assumption for this post is that you are actually genuinely actively trying to land your next DS position, meaning you will be using every tool at your disposal. And, that your goal is to maximize the number of interviews.

Introduction

Whether you are someone who is in college trying to nab your next co-op/internship, or you are someone who is in the IT sector with some relevant experience trying to swap to the DS career after checking out the comp for this. In this post, we’ll talk about how you can get your resume across to as many different relevant eyeballs as possible. The goal of this post is to maximize the number of interviews you get.

Still in School

Maximize Uni Job Boards

If you are still in University, you should look at your school’s job board. A lot of these positions are restricted to those that only go to said school, meaning you will have less competition for these positions. In other words, less competition.

Another thing you can do is ask a friend of yours who goes to a different university that is located nearby, and ask if his school’s job board has any applications you can fill out. Some positions will restrict you because you do not go to their university, however if you find a position and they just straight up tell you where to e-mail your resume, ABSOLUTELY 100% DO THAT. Worst case scenario they ignore your resume, best case scenario you get called in for an interview when you don’t even go to that university.

Have like 2 or 3 friends that go to different nearby Universities and Colleges, and you basically tripled the potential number of positions you can apply to, just like that.
