Using GPT to make your job search more efficient
Job Application, HR Phone Interview, Technical Interview, Final Interview
So, first thing’s first, you’ll want to go ahead, and upload a resume to GPT, and then tell it that you’ll use it to help you with the job application process. I recommend having 4 different chats open. We will use each of the chats for their own specialization:
Job Application
HR Phone Interview
Technical Interview
Final Interview
Go ahead, and get started by uploading your resume to GPT4. Please don’t waste your time with the free version of GPT, the free version of the tool is basically useless. Here’s an example of a resume I’ll be using:
Once you’ve uploaded the resume, tell GPT that it will help you apply to jobs, and to give responses in a 1st person perspective.
Job Application
Once you’ve followed the steps above, now GPT has access to your resume, it has processed all of the information you’ve fed it on your background. So, now, we’ll use it to answer a bunch of pointless stupid questions that job applications make you sometimes answer:
1.) Why do you want to work here: Go ahead and give GPT the name of the company (or a link to their website), and then tell it to answer this question based off your resume.
A quick Ctrl + C, then Ctrl + V, and you’re done. Let’s tackle another dumb question that you’ll be asked, except this time, let’s say they want to see your experience with a particular technical skill.
2.) Tell us about your experience with MS Azure: go ahead, and ask GPT to use your resume to come up with a brief paragraph.
A quick Ctrl C + Ctrl V, and you are done. Now, let’s say we want GPT to talk about a skill. But, the problem is, we already have this skill, but for some reason didn’t bother to make a bullet point talking about it.
3.) Tell us about a project you worked on, that used Python: In this case, we don’t have any specifics, so we’ll tell GPT to come up with a likely scenario based off our resume.
There you go, now at this point, even if a company does actually read you responses to their mandatory questions, you’re good to go, and even if they just have an automated tool to check for a few keywords, you’re still good to go.
Next up, let’s focus on when you start getting some interview offers, we’ll focus on the HR phone screen interview first.
Phone Interview
For the phone interview, the HR lady generally just wants to collect information on the following:
Research we did on the company
Some basic behavioral questions
How our previous skillset relates to the role
So, let’s break it down, and open up a new conversation with GPT designed specifically to help answer this.
1.) Research you did on the company: Just
